One of the Jewar 'gang-rape' victims allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Sunday early morning.
Over ten days have passed after the Jewar gang-rape and murder incident but police are still in dark. They have detained several suspects but failed to reach the main accused. Even the doctors have refused to accept that the women were gang raped after the medical reports. Feeling depressed and disrespected in the society, the elderly woman chose to quit her life but fortunately, the attentiveness of the family members saved her when she was trying to tie the scarf in the ceiling fan.
The victim was a cab driver's wife and lived with her husband in the neighbourhood. She is one of the four women who was gang-raped. They were raped by a group of six unidentified assailants on Jewar Bulandshahr Road on the night of May 24.
According to the victim's family members, the incident occurred at around 3 am. All the members were sleeping on the rooftop when the woman came down and took the extreme step. She was spotted by her daughter while she was trying to hang herself from the ceiling fan. The daughter raised an alarm and alerted other family members. Somehow they managed to rescue her. The woman went into severe depression after the dreadful incident.
"I pleaded several times before the culprits but they paid no mercy. They sexually assaulted me and other women. I have three married daughters who live with their in-laws. The incident has made my life miserable and my family has lost their respect in the society," said the victim.
"They didn't even care about my age," said the sobbing victim.
