Endangering the health of nearby inhabitants, a bio-medical waste management treatment facility was found to be not adopting prescribed norms for handling of medical waste.

During a surprise of M/s Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt Ltd at Small Scale Industry Area, GT Karnal Road on Thursday, Environment Minister Imran Hussain found several serious violations of norms.

The Minister, accompanied by senior officers of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, found that it is not adopting prescribed norms for collection, receipt, storage, disposal and handling of medical waste.

Expressing serious concern, Hussain expressed that the bio-medical waste received from the hospitals, dispensaries, laboratories, animal houses, veterinary institutions, blood banks etc. may contain bio-hazardous contaminants and germs of serious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Tetanus etc.; thus, the firms/persons involved in handling of bio-medical waste are expected to exercise caution by following the prescribed rules.
