Students applying under OBC quota face obstacles

With the last Open Day session coming to a close on Wednesday, many aspirants had doubts pertaining to caste and income certificates.

Many applicants faced problems with caste certificates issued from other states as they had made no mention of the family income.

According to the University policy, income certificates must be issued according to guidelines of the Department of Personnel and Training by the Central board. xMany students, who had recently applied for an OBC certificate, claimed that their certificates have a section which claims that they come from the non-creamy layer background. However, these certificates have no mention of family income.

The University policy states that non-creamy layer students, with family income less than Rs 6,00,000 per annum, are eligible for admission under OBC quota.

Umesh Saini is one such student applying under OBC quota. However, his caste certificate has no mention of income. "I have all required documents, but now I have been told about the non-creamy layer declaration. I have been asked to produce an income certificate."

Students applying under OBC quota have been asked to produce income certificates before June 12. However, many said they have just started filling Form 16 and are fearful of missing out the deadline. Some students have also just started getting their OBC certificates and fear missing out on the admission process. "I may have to enroll from general category as I don't think my caste certificate will reach on time," said Shivani, a student from Army Public School, Noida.
