LG meets civic officials, asks them to improve services

With focus on promoting Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and online service delivery besides maintaining infrastructure, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Monday asked Delhi officials to improve civic services in the Capital.
The LG chaired a meeting with officials of the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs), New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Development Authority on various issues such as ODF areas under Swachh Bharat Mission, online digital permissions/licences, cashless/digital transactions and online delivery of services, mechanical sweeping of roads, construction of new community toilets and public toilets, maintenance of parks, maintenance of pavements, involvement of resident welfare associations in monitoring cleanliness of roads, public places and dhalaos and display of public notices.

In the meeting, Baijal also asked to ensure development of parking lots and multi-level parking, development of gram sabha land as neighbourhood parks for children, road map for development of MCD and DDA markets, proper street furniture on roads, markets and public places, installation of water-ATM machines, action plan for installation of open gyms etc.

Puneet Kumar Goel, Commissioner, South Delhi Municipal Corporation apprised Baijal that seven roads of Dwarka Sub-City are being swept by two mechanical sweepers on hiring-basis. The Corporation has planned to buy 12 more machines that would be inducted within two-three months. Further, it was apprised that 285 additional public toilets will be constructed in current financial year.

Praveen Gupta, Commissioner, North Delhi Municipal Corporation informed the LG that WhatsApp groups for involvement of RWAs and their feedback have been created in their jurisdictions. Further, the civic body is developing seven parking sites in four zones. Regarding the possibility of development of gram sabha land for children parks, the Narela Zone has identified two gram sabha lands in Mundka village, and in Civil Lines Zone, two sites have been identified.
