CEA addresses GST orientation programme in Assembly

An orientation programme meant clearing the doubts related to Goods and Services Tax (GST) of Delhi lawmakers was organised at the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The Assembly is likely to pass the State GST Bill on Wednesday. As part of Monday's programme, Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser, Government of India addressed lawmakers on the subject of GST.

The programme was organised as Speaker Ram Niwas Goel was keen that members become better equipped to discuss the GST Bill when it is taken up for discussion in the Assembly. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the Finance portfolio, and Principal Secretary (Finance) S N Sahai also spoke on GST in the context of the Delhi-NCR. A presentation on GST was given by the VAT Commissioner and a Q&A session was also organised to clear the doubts of lawmakers on the Bill.

The Speaker also raised his own queries on the subject.

All ministers of the Delhi Cabinet and a large number of MLAs participated in the programme.

It may be recalled that the Secretariat of the Legislative Assembly has been organising orientation programmes/workshops on different subjects.
