Display touch screens to be set up for clarity on admissions

With the online registration process still riddled with technical glitches and a lack of information on the official website of Delhi University, officials of the varsity have deployed display touch screens at the counselling centre to clarify information pertaining to the admission process.

Apart from the screens, officials also released a short video detailing the admission process. However, the video was made by a University student and due to the ongoing exams the video update will also be delayed by a week.

Moreover, the website will be shut down by University officials during low traffic time for maintenance work, sources claimed.

The display screens will have access to the DU website servers and will live stream all developments related to admissions. So far, University officials have deputed two Aumatel display screens at the Open House counselling centre.

Staff from the Computer Science Department will set up the screens and officials of the Department told Millennium Post that the screens should be up and running by next week.

"The screen should be functional by tomorrow (Friday). But there is still some work which is being undertaken. We have to establish an Internet connection and also do some coding work. If we are not able to set up the screen by tomorrow, then by next week the screens will definitely be functional," an official of the Department said.

The screens were earlier placed near the Wall of Heroes, an exhibition on martyred Indian Army soldiers. However, due to whitewashing work at the Wall of Heroes, the machines were removed.

Almost every department in the University campus has at least four such screens which were installed in 2013.

Officials are also mulling over if additional screens can be installed at strategic places, such as the main gate of the Open House counselling session venue.

The display screen will not only guide DU aspirants, but also help current students of the University as the machine will display information about exam schedules, admission forms, important receipts and roll numbers.

"Many of the children do not even have mobile phones. They need access to vital information and we hope the touch screens will help such aspirants," said a DU official.
