Man dies after being trapped in elevator

A 27-year-old man died after he got trapped inside a malfunctioning lift in Rohini's Narela area in North West Delhi on Sunday.

The deceased Jaan Mohammad was using the life when he got stuck between its doors. Following this, the life started to move and he died because of excessive blood loss.

According to a senior police official from Rohini district, Mohammad lives with his family at Kureni village in Narela.

On the day of the incident, Mohammad had left for work at a factory located in Narela.

He reached office around 9 a.m. and worked for half an hour.

He was transporting some goods from the third floor to the fifth floor and so he took the lift.

However, later he found that the lift was malfunctioning and wanted to take the stairs for the same reason.

"The victim Mohammad wanted to go to the fifth floor but later decided to take the stairs. But when he tried to leave the lift, its doors suddenly closed.

" He tried to free himself but the lift started to move. He was killed after he lost a lot of blood following the accident," said a senior police official from Rohini district.

After the incident was reported, the Delhi police deputed a Crime team and officials from NDRF.

Mohammad was moved to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival.

The police are now questioning the owner who has been identified as Megh Raj.

"We have registered a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rishi Pal.
