An altercation over a property matter went so out of hand that a man shot dead his father and injured his stepmother in Outer Delhi's Baba Haridas Nagar on Sunday.
The woman is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while the 30-year-old accused has been arrested by police.
The incident was reported around 7.30 pm on Sunday, when the accused, Digambar, got into a heated argument with his father and stepmother over the distribution of a property.
In a fit of rage, Digambar took out a gun he had hidden on him and fired several rounds at his father, 53-year-old Nahar Singh, and stepmother Suman (50).
Both the victims were immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where Nahar Singh succumbed to the gunshot wounds. Suman was later shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
Sources told Millennium Post that Digamber initially used to be a constable in the Central Reserved Police Force, but had resigned after just a year and a half in service.
Thereafter, Digambar involved himself in the property business.
When Nahar Singh wanted to distribute his property between his first and the second wife's children, it enraged Digambar.
"Things went out of control when Digamber thought the property was being unevenly distributed. He took out his pistol and opened fire at his parents. We have registered a case of 302 and 307 in the incident," said a senior police officer.
Digamber was arrested soon after the incident. The condition of his stepmother Suman is said to be stable.
