Protests by Noida homebuyers brings traffic to grinding halt

Noida witnessed two massive protests held by aggrieved home buyers on Sunday afternoon. The buyers demanded action against the builders' group for the prolonged delay in possession and illegal construction at builder's site.

Sitting on roads under the extreme heat of 42 degrees, around hundreds of home buyers from Unitech's project in sector 117, Noida, near Noida sector 71 demanded the district authority to initiate immediate actions against the builder's group.

The home buyers also raised slogans and marched to builder's site in sector 117 which jammed the roads for over three hours.

The buyers of Unitech Unihomes in Noida staged a protest under the banner of Unitech Unihomes flat buyer's welfare associations (UUFBWA).

The women, children, and senior citizens also participated in the protest which went on for three hours. Those who managed to get their flats, participated in the protest raising their issue on non-availability of basic amenities such as electricity, water supply, security, and lifts.

"I booked a retail shop in Unitech Unihomes with all my savings in 2009. The builder promised to deliver the possession within two years but looking at the progress of construction work, it is impossible to get the shop even in next three or four years. Till now I have made 95 percent of the total cost," said one such protestor, P N Sharma

Vipin Gupta, Joint-secretary, Unitech Unihomes flat buyer's welfare associations (UUFBWA), said, "The builder has cheated thousands of home buyers. Without obtaining the completion certificate from the authority, the builder has allowed the home buyers to shift in their new flats. With no facilities and basic amenities present in the society, the buyers feel hostile. We demand the newly elected CM of the state to take immediate actions against such builders who have made the home buyers suffer".

In the second protest of the same day, homebuyers of Antriksh builder in sector 78, Noida demanded immediate actions against the builder for carrying illegal construction activities in the parking area.
