It has been a week since the incident of abduction and gang rape of a 26-year-old woman from Sikkim around the Sector 17 area was reported, locals alleged that danger still persists as major problems have not been addressed yet by the law enforcing authorities.
Residents of Sector 17 and Sukhrali village complain that the problem of open drinking and road rage is a common phenomenon around the area.
On Saturday, the police arrested two people indulging in open drinking around the same area.
Gurugram Police claimed that a massive crackdown has been initiated against the people who indulge in open drinking with more than 80 people remanded in past two months.
This, however, has failed to satisfy the residents who highlight that open drinking still persists around the area resulting in the non-safety of the citizens.
"Even after the Haryana government's ban on the open drinking, people still flout the rules. Further, the problem of road rage is also a major problem in the area. Most of the commuters after dark drive rashly. There have been various incidents of the altercation between the commuters reported from the area," said Sukhdev Sehrawat, a resident of Sukhrali village.
"It has been a shame that this area is just 30 kilometres away from the national capital. Further, this area is located on a busy MG road area. Yet, you have no security presence, no proper street lights. The rapists of the 26-year-old woman understood the poor condition of security in the area and exploited it to their advantage," said Nidhi Kapoor, a resident of Sector 17.
