54 cases of burglary, theft solved with arrest of five

After they robbed the house of a retired IAS officer, cops from South Campus, South District, arrested five accused and recovered stolen cash, US dollars, gold and silver jewellery, expensive mobile phones, a laptop, an iPad, scooties and, in the process, solved 54 cases of robbery, burglary and motor vehicle theft.
The accused were identified as Roshan Messy, Vicky Rawat, Sharon Kant, Monu – all residents of Munirka Village – and 25-year-old Anju Chauhan.
Several incidents of night burglary in South Campus, especially in Shanti Niketan, had been reported. These included the house of a French Diplomat and nearby houses, including that of a retired IAS officer.
Vulnerable points were identified by cops, picketing and motorcycle patrols were intensified and staff was deployed in plain clothes at these spots.
A pink file of all budding criminals, previously involved in burglaries in the area, was also prepared by the police team.
On May 17, the team managed to nab Roshan Messy, Sharon and Monu while they were on a scooty without a number plate. During interrogation, they revealed that it was stolen from South Campus.
They also revealed that they used to steal vehicles for recce in day time and then commit burglary at night. Based on the information from the accused, stolen gold jewellery and two scooties were recovered. Eventually, their associates Vicky and the receiver of the stolen property Anju Chauhan were also arrested.
"After the disclosure of the accused persons, 54 cases of burglary, theft/motor vehicle theft from South Campus, R K Puram, Sarojini Nagar, Saket, Safdarjung Enclave and Hauz Khas have been worked out," said DCP South Ishwar Singh.
The gang, reportedly impressed by the extravagant lifestyle of pop sensation Justin Bieber, also used to throw lavish parties with the stolen money.
