As the developers and public agencies in residential colonies of Gurugram have failed in providing adequate maintenance, the resident bodies have come forward with the help of same.
Most of the citizen bodies are contributing towards enhancing better street lighting, security, and cleanliness in their areas. Recently a group of residents of South City -2 collaborated and pooled in money to install LED streetlights. Residents of other posh colonies are also working on the same.
These residents also plan to set up compost units and are installing metal gates to strengthen the security.
Not only in posh colonies, but also in the surrounding villages, the residents are contributing money towards the building of roads and improvement of drainage systems in their neighbourhood.
With such initiatives gaining popularity, the residents highlight that challenge of making these initiatives sustainable for a longer period of time remains.
"There is a lot of running around that is required for undertaking such projects. Most of the residents need to be convinced of such projects. In the recent past we installed new streetlights and set up new metal gates. However, most were not impressed with the idea of individuals undertaking these projects. It is only after repeated conversations that they agreed," said a resident Sudesh Gupta.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) that is expected to take over the maintenance of private colonies have announced that the maintenance of parks and community centre will be handed over to the resident bodies.Certain MCG officials are also guiding citizens in the residential society towards setting up of compost units in their communities.
