He asked her to shut her eyes which she did unsuspectingly. In an irony, she who was expecting a gift was killed after he stabbed her multiple times in the neck. To confirm the death, the murderer cut her wrist open. This is how 30-year-old Pooja breathed her last at her Amar Colony flat in South East Delhi.
The killer, Sufian thought that he played a neat game. But, the cops had already formed several teams to crack the case. The body was discovered three days after the incident that took place on March 27.
The cops knew that Pooja who worked as a saleswoman was acquainted with the killer since she allowed him inside the house. However, even after sustained efforts, the police were left with only a few clues. Slowly, it was paving way for the case to be termed as a 'blind' one.
A team under the leadership of IPS officer and under trainee Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, currently holding the charge as SHO Amar Colony was formed to crack the case. Even after several raids and 40 suspects being interrogated, the case always lead to a dead end.
When all conventional methods of investigation failed to yield any result, advanced technical surveillance including an investigation into the various social media platforms, VoIP platforms, and other methods of scientific and forensic investigation was applied through which the investigation zeroed into one suspect Mohammad Sufian who was arrested on May 14.
He was nabbed while trying to flee with his girlfriend. Sufian, an Old Delhi resident is said to be in import-export business.
The investigation revealed that Sufian developed a relationship with Rina (name changed) and his friend Samir in a party a year ago. Often Sufian took room keys from Pooja to spend exclusive time with Rina.
"However, the two girls developed differences and Pooja stopped giving her room to Sufian which irked him. He had to take up costly rooms and hence murdered her," said Romil Baaniya, DCP South-East Delhi.
