In order to tackle the challenges of parking, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is planning to set up 20 parking lots in New Gurugram area.
The areas where parking lots will be set up are Sector 29, Sector 32, Sector 54, Sector 39, Sector 44 and Sector 45.
Among the 20 parking lots, 11 will be set up in Sector 29, famous for its restaurants and bars, four in Sector 32, and two in Sector 44 area that has offices of multinational companies.
There will be one parking slot each in residential Sectors of 54 and 45 and commercial Sector 39.
Based on the rates formulated for four hours, the four wheelers will have to shell out a sum of Rs 20 while the two wheelers will be charged Rs 10. For heavy commercial vehicles, the rates are set at Rs 100.
In one of the parking slots at Sector 29, HUDA plans to initiate payment through digital means and ensure cashless transactions.
The authority has begun the process of selecting agencies to carry out the operations of the parking areas.
Sources in HUDA admitted that lack of space in the old areas of the city prevented in no new parking slots.
With the increase in the number of vehicles, there has also been a rise in complaints of wrongly parked vehicles which continues to plague the city even after large numbers of campaigns were carried out by Gurugram police and public agencies to resolve the parking crisis.
A major reason cited for this is the increase in the number of parking mafia that charges high amount from the commuters.
"A lot of unregulated parking areas have come up around the metro stations and the malls in the MG road because of no parking spaces. While a lot of initiative has been announced to tackle the crisis of parking in the city, it has not been implemented well," said Rajan Bhargava, a city resident.
