Suicide of DIU inspector being probed in all seriousness: DCP South East

A day after an Inspector posted with the District Investigation Unit (DIU) committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol, police claimed to be investigating in "all seriousness".

DCP (South East) Romil Baniya said he has been visiting several family members who are in Delhi as they are trying to ascertain the reasons for Kaushal Ganguly's extreme step.

Police are still unable to believe that Ganguly killed himself over work-related pressure. Sources in Delhi Police have claimed that Ganguly had been managing four cases during the time of his suicide. "Inspectors from DIU are relatively free and have a lot of time on their hands as they do not handle law and order in the district. On an average an inspector from DIU handles around 40 cases," a police source said.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that Ganguly had refused to be a part of the security arrangement for the Jat agitation on March 19 .

Ganguly was found dead around 6 pm inside the toilet at the first floor of CR Park police station. He had reportedly asked for permission to carry the pistol for his duty for Thursday's Shab-e-Barat security arrangements. His post-mortem is yet to be conducted as the investigators are waiting for his family to reach Delhi.

"We are treating this case in all seriousness as he was our own inspector. His family is yet to arrive. I personally met some of his family members today and asked them about the reasons for the suicide," said Baniya.
