After Hindu Rao Hospital shifted six of its patients to be operated for the cataract to Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis hospital, all of them came out blind.
This happened due to bacterial infection in the tuberculosis specialised hospital.
The incident proves the negligence in the treatment of ophthalmic patients in the government hospital is multiplying despite several attempts to it curb down.
"Patients who had come to Hindu Rao Hospital for cataract surgery had to be shifted due to the dilapidated condition of Operation Theater. They were sent even after knowing the consequences of contamination in the other hospital, " says an official at Hindu Rao Hospital.
He also stated that these affected patients were treated in the same surgical units as the tuberculosis patients which is illegal.
Out of the six patients, four were operated in surgery unit I and rest in Unit 2 at Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and
Tuberculosis hospital.
The official stated that hospital administration is trying to hide the facts. Therefore, the identity of the culprit is yet to be ascertained.
However, the information related to this incident has already been sent to the senior official at municipal corporation headquarters and the investigation is on.
In this regard, Dr. Ajit Goyal, medical superintendent, confirmed the incident but refused to make any further comments.
