In a crackdown on high-profile cheating cases, the Delhi Police have solved two separate cases where people were duped on the pretext of getting government jobs in exchange for money, police said on Monday.
In the first case, six members of an inter-state cheating gang were arrested on April 20, for duping over 50 people to the tune of Rs 65 lakh. The gang would target residents of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, offering them government jobs for a deposit of Rs 3 lakh.
Delhi Police's Crime Branch unit nabbed the six accused – Surajveer Singh, Premjeet Rai, Sarat Singh Panwar, Dayal Chand, Sonu Kumar and Nand Kishore – from different parts of the city, after the complainant in the case had approached cops claiming he was promised him a job as clerk in different government agencies.
The complainant paid Rs 6 lakh to the accused, who later also targeted his friends and swindled them of Rs 65 lakh. "The gang also arranged for medical tests at a government hospital," said DCP (Crime Branch), Bhisham Singh.
In the second case, a woman who had cheated many unsuspecting people of several lakhs of rupees, claiming to provide government jobs, was arrested from Green Park. The South District police arrested Anita (53), for cheating the complainant Sunita, by offering her son a government job for Rs 3 lakh.
When Sunita's son did not get the promised job, cops registered a case and eventually tracked down Anita to Green Park.
"Anita disclosed that she duped several people of around Rs 36 lakh. We have recovered Rs 52,700 from her and will try to get in touch with her other victims," said DCP (South) Ishwar Singh.
