10 new police stations in Ggn now functional

The ten new police stations in Gurugram have begun their operations from Sunday. Along with providing requisite facilities for the stations, the officers deployed will begin dispensing their responsibilities from Monday.

The new police stations are situated at Sector 50, Sector 53, Shivaji Nagar, New Colony, Sector 9-A, Bajghera, Sector 14, IMT Sector 7, Sector 37 and Sohna Police stations.

On Friday, the Commissioner of Police Sandeep Khirwar along with other senior officer inspected the preparations for the opening these stations. With the addition of ten more stations, now there will be 35 functional stations in the city.

This decision was approved by the Haryana Government home department last month. It came to play to curb the rising levels of crime in and around the city.

According to officials, there are around 45 FIR's lodged on a daily basis in the city.

In 2016, more than 3500 FIRs were lodged.

With the major challenges of rising crime and shortage of manpower, Gurugram Police officials highlighted that increase in stations will act as a preventive method in a large scale. Presently, for a population of twenty lakh Gurugram citizens, there are 3,780 officials.

"The main objective of setting up of new stations is to ensure that not only crime is curbed in densely populated parts but also restricted in the newly developed areas," said ACP Manish Sehegal spokesperson Gurugram Police.

He further stated that with the rise in the city's population, there was a requirement for an increase in police stations to address the service
delivery gaps.
