As the entire nation is seen applauding the judicial system of the country following the verdict released on Nirbhaya case, many such other families continue their quest for justice.
As per DCW records, every day there are six incidents of rape and murder taking place in the national capital.
In 31,446 FIR's registered against crimes on women in Delhi from 2012-14, only 146 have been convicted. Further, in 2014, out of 11,209 FIRs registered only 50 percent cases has been investigated in February 2016.
In 2016, there were over 3.16 lakh calls that were handled by 181 DCW helpline in which 5733 cases were dealt with rape crisis lawyers since its expansion.
Also, 1869 counselling sessions were initiated in sexual assault cases and out of 1400 placement agencies, only one is licensed.
In 2015, 9489 cases of children rape have been recorded in the capital, stated National Crime Records Bureau. 2,155 rape cases were reported last year while till March 15 this year, over 300 such cases have been reported, shows data given by Delhi Police.
Even the Millennium City has become a den of rapists.
On Thursday, the Gurugram Police arrested a 42-year-old private school cab driver for molestation of a 5-year-old girl.
A series of cases where minors aged between 5 to 10 were raped, killed and dumped in the city have been recorded in 2017 itself.
The DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal seems dissatisfied with the judicial system of the country.
"Disappointingly, there is no guarantee that rapists, molesters, and killers of India's daughter will be punished as per law," said Maliwal.
The drawbacks include the lack of CCTV in public transportation, inadequate women toilets, poor forensic laboratory facilities, lack of police digitisation records and inadequate fast track courts.
Taking into cognisance the complexity of multiple state agencies functioning in Delhi, DCW has advocated for the formation of High-level committee that will monitor the steps for safety of women in Delhi.
A proposal has been put forward that the High-level committee should comprise of the Union Home Minister, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Chief Minister of Delhi, Delhi Police Commissioner and also DCW Chairperson.
"The family of Nirbhaya is a source of inspiration. Even after so much pressure, they fought for her justice. It is only through their struggle that major reformation in-laws towards the safety of women were made by the Government," added Swati Maliwal.
She stated that the flaws in the system have resulted in many Nirbhayas being denied justice.
"This verdict will provide them another impetus to carry on their fight for truth," she added.
