Tentative dates for Mayoral polls declared

The process for appointment of new Mayors for the Municipal Corporations of Delhi has been cleared after the Lieutenant Governor's approval to a proposal sent by the Corporations.

The first meeting will be held on tentative dates for the mayoral polls for the three Municipal Corporations.

For the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, the proposed date is May 18, while the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) meeting is set to be held on May 19. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) will hold its meeting on May 22.

In the meetings, the newly elected Councillors of all the three Corporations will be administered the oath of membership by a pro tem Mayor or senior Councillors appointed by the LG.

Mayors of the SDMC, North MCD and EDMC, the deputy Mayors and six members of the Standing Committee of the House will be elected in the first meeting of the House.

"A mayor is supposed to be elected in the first meeting of the new House subject to LG's approval, who then would appoint a presiding officer and a senior officer.
