Woman arrested for extortion taken to Muzaffarnagar, degrees under scanner

The woman arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from Gujarat BJP MP KC Patel on false charges of rape has been taken to Muzaffarnagar by the police on Thursday.

The matter regarding her possible involvement with larger extortion networks and also if she has victimised more people in the same manner are being looked into by the police.

"Many influential people have not come up to us after being honey-trapped for the fear of defamation," said police sources.

On Wednesday, the cops conducted a raid at her residence after which they recovered 500 GB DVR recorder.

A team of officers is scanning the contents of the DVR recordings to know if other high profile politicians have been targeted by the accused.

She lives in a rented house in Indirapuram in Gaziabad, UP.

The investigating team is also checking her educational certificates including the LLB degree. Sources in the police stated that the woman is linked with one of the known criminals of Western Uttar Pradesh. "We are also investigating if he has any role in the alleged extortion," said sources.

The police also suspect if the criminal in touch with the woman has any role to play in another high profile arrest that recently took place in Deoband in Saharanpur.

In this matter, a woman from Jind in Haryana filed a case against former minister of Uttrakhand Maulana Masood Madni alleging rape.

The Cops are verifying if the criminal involved is also a part of the extortion racket from high profile targets since he is in touch with both the women who have been involved in a similar way.

"We have found aphrodisiac medicines from her rented accommodation. The investigators are focusing on the call records of the woman. Several people have also been called by police for investigation," said police.
The woman has accused Patel, a lawmaker from Gujarat's Valsad constituency, of raping her at his official residence on March 3 after he allegedly invited her for dinner.

She had known Patel for a long time and both were part of the same social circle, informed sources.
The woman's lawyer, Shahid Anwar stated that the police have failed to take any action against their complaint. "We will decide the future course of the action after the police remand ends. The court has asked for the appointment of an investigating officer and the next date is May 12" said Shahid Anwar, the woman's lawyer.
