The properties under Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) jurisdiction will no more be registered if the property tax against is not cleared.
This decision of non-registration of properties has been informed to all sub-registrars in the city.
To make sure that property buyers are kept hassle free, the MCG has planned to set up tehsils around various districts in the area.
These tehsils will be entrusted with the responsibility of informing people regarding the amount of property taxes pending against the land.
Presently, counters have been set up in Kadipur and Wazirabad.
This move by MCG comes at a time when huge efforts are being initiated by its officials to collect the property taxes.
The MCG is taking punitive action against defaulters based on complaints that how property taxes were being passed to new land owners owing to lack of information on pending dues.
Further, due to the presence of multiple agencies in the city, most of the people are unaware of the areas under MCG jurisdiction and therefore have avoided paying the taxes.
"Most of the people who do not pay their property taxes get away by selling their property because of which the new owners have to face the brunt.
At a time when the MCG is undertaking a large-scale effort to recover the pending property taxes, several such complaints are emerging. In order to remove the discrepancies, the registration of properties will not take place unless the taxes are cleared," said a senior Gurugram official.
The official also stated that all the sub-registrars have been informed that before the registration, the information on pending dues must be taken from the counters.
"Later if there is any action taken against the defaulters, the excuse that requisite information was not provided by the public agencies towards tax will not be entertained," added the official.
Meanwhile, the MCG is leaving no stone unturned in order to collect the property taxes in the city.
More than 350 properties have been sealed in the city due to the same.
Also, the MCG has collected more than Rs 300 crore in property taxes in just three months.
