Nigerian woman jumps off third floor, survives fall

A 30-year-old Nigerian woman on Wednesday jumped from the third floor of an apartment located in south Delhi's Mehrauli area and has sustained injuries to her leg.

The woman, identified as Cope, was reportedly drunk during the time of the incident. The investigators are trying to ascertain whether this was a suicide attempt.

The incident took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday. "We had received a PCR call around 4:25 am that a woman of African origin had jumped from Choice Apartments, located in Mehrauli.
A team was deputed at the spot and the woman was shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre," said Additional Commissioner of Police (South) Chinmoy Biswal.
According to the security guard Pramod, the woman was in an inebriated condition and forcefully entered the apartment premises, police said.

Pramod told the police that the woman had entered the premises around 3:45 am. The guard along with another eye witness Divyanshu tried to reason with her but she did not listen and barged inside the stairway entry, climbing her way till the third floor.

Before Pramod could catch up, the woman jumped off.

The doctors said that the woman had sustained a fractured in her leg and had to undergo an emergency surgery.
"We could not interact with the woman as she was unfit for statement. We could only trace her father Paul and have contacted him," said a police official.
The police have recovered a CCTV footage from the apartment in which the entire incident was captured.
"We are yet to ascertain if this was a suicide attempt. We are waiting for her statement," the official added.
