Death of air hostess: Husband sent to 14-day police custody
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday sent the husband of a flight attendant, who allegedly committed suicide in south Delhi's Panchsheel Park on Friday, to two weeks' judicial custody.
Metropolitan Magistrate sent Mayank Singhvi to 14 days' judicial remand after Delhi police moved an application saying the accused was not required for custodial interrogation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya on Wednesday said that they have asked one of the friends of the deceased woman Anissia to join questioning.
It is suspected that before jumping to death, Anissia allegedly she sent text messages, one to her husband and another to her friend.
Police want to know whether the friend was aware of the tiff between the husband and the wife. Cops did not question anybody on Wednesday, as the parents of the deceased were busy with the last rites of their daughter. The parents of the husband will be questioned after 20 July.
"We arrested the husband yesterday and questioned him for an hour. He claimed to be innocent," said a senior police official.
He added that they are probing whether the victim was upset with her husband for not telling her about his first marriage.
The victim's family alleged that Singhvi used to "physically assault" her and ask for her money. Another issue over which the couple had arguments was the sale of her flat in south Delhi.
Anissia's family members had filed a police a complaint on June 27 about that the fight between the couple and stated that her husband and in-laws would be responsible if anything happens to her. The complaint was one-and-a-half pages long.
Cops are now seeking the bank account details of the couple. "We will scan the bank transaction details and tell the bank to freeze the accounts related to the case," said the police official.
On 13 July, the 39-year-old air hostess was found dead under mysterious circumstances in south Delhi's Hauz Khas area. Her husband, who is a software engineer, told the cops that she jumped from the terrace of the house.
Before the incident, the victim sent a message on his phone that she will take the extreme step.
