DCW to conduct social audit of shelter homes across Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) is set to conduct a social audit of all shelter homes for women and girls in Delhi. DCW Chief Swati Maliwal has set up an expert committee on the matter which will conduct social audit of all shelter homes and submit its report in three months. Commenting on the matter, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "A detailed and thorough investigation of all homes should also be done."

The Delhi Commission for Women has set up an expert committee to conduct a detailed social audit of all the shelter homes in the city where women and girls are residing. This committee shall consist of academicians, lawyers, mental health experts as well as social workers. "The commission on its own has conducted several inspections in govt run shelter homes in Delhi.

The commission has also inspected several private homes on receipt of complaints. This committee shall undertake comprehensive social audits. Muzzafarpur and Deoria incidents have shocked the entire nation. It is the need of the hour to comprehensively audit the functioning of each and every shelter home in the country," said Maliwal.

Officials said that the committee shall have the mandate to inspect and assess the conditions of govt as well as private run shelter homes for women and girls. The expert committee shall give detailed observations on the condition of girls and women in the homes, the facilities provided in the homes, the security measures undertaken and the rehabilitation programme being followed by the shelter homes. "To the best possible extent, the committee shall ensure surprise inspections of these homes. The members of the expert committee shall be required to have detailed interviews with the girls and women to properly ascertain if any problem exists in these homes," said an official.

Recently, a horror unfolded in Muzaffarpur shelter home, in which at least 34 girls sexually abused have shaken the entire nation. As the investigation by the CBI further unfolds, shocking facts have been revealed. It was also revealed that at least 11 women and four children were reported missing from another home. On this, the second FIR against Brajesh Thakur, the man who runs the shelter home, was registered against him by the police.
