DCW intervention results in suspension of Haryana Police official

The intervention of Delhi Commission for women (DCW) in the case of alleged misbehaviour by a policeman in Faridabad with a Delhi girl has resulted in the suspension of the cop.

The complaint was registered at 181 helpline of DCW by a 21-year-old woman hailing from South Delhi.

In her complaint, the woman stated that she was taking driving lessons from her male friend near Surajkund at Faridabad when they were stopped by two policemen. She alleged that the cops had not only hit her friend but also snatched her wallet.

The woman claimed that her calls with the police helpline number went unheard which prompted her to contact DCW. Soon after the complaint,
DCW swung into action and its councillor got in touch with the cops of the area.

Hearing the complaint, cops of the area suspended the concerned police personnel. Also, they initiated a departmental inquiry against the two accused cops who had misbehaved with the duo.

Providing her views on the incident, Swati Maliwal, the DCW Chief said, "Anyone who misbehaves with a girl or a woman should not be spared. I encourage girls and women to call 181women helpline immediately if they felt threatened or abused in
any circumstances."
