DCW chief's hunger strike enters day six

NEW DELHI: The indefinite hunger strike by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Jai Hind, demanding stricter provisions to be enacted for punishment for rape of minor, entered its sixth day on Wednesday at Rajghat here.
Several minister of the Delhi government, as well as political leaders from across the country, including former Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav, visited Jai Hind to express solidarity.
Addressing the gatherers, Jai Hind said that in this time of crisis, "the Prime minister has gone out of the country, and she would also wait to have a discussion with him after he returns."
She also mentioned that the PM has said that "our society should have social values, but I want to say that people of our society already have good mindset," which is why people from all around are supporting her fast.
Jai Hind also said, "We might have 10 per cent bad people, which include our political leaders."
The DCW chief has written a letter to all MPs to support and raise the issue in the Parliament, reiterating her demand for more fast track courts, completion of child rape cases within six months and death penalty for the guilty, recruitment of 66,000 police personnel in Delhi Police and better forensic labs.
