DCW chief meets eight-year-old rape survivor

New Delhi: The Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal on Wednesday visited an eight-year-old rape survivor who was recently raped by her 12-year-old brother in East Delhi's Azadpur area.

DCW issued a press release which stated that the girl sustained severe injuries and had to undergo a major operation in order to survive. Currently, she is in a serious condition and is admitted to a hospital. An FIR has been registered at Azadpur police station and the culprit has been sent to juvenile home. Survivor's parents are daily wage labourers and are very poor. DCW shall be supporting the girl financially and shall be filing a case in the court seeking compensation for the survivor.

Maliwal said, "It is really hurting to meet a rape survivor. The 8-year-old child has suffered severe pain, that too from her own real brother. Crime against women and girls are on the rise in the country and concerted steps have to be taken by governments against the same."
