DCPCR starts pilot project for slum kids

New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has started a pilot project based on the nutritious diet for children living in various slums. The child rights body will reach out to the communities that had lesser access to healthier food options. The DCPCR started their project in Indra Kalyan Vihar. More than 375 women and children of the cluster were present.

According to child rights body, they are concerned over junk food habits developing very fast among growing children.

"We need to promote a healthy food habit. It requires the involvement of multiple sectors and stakeholders, including government, and the public and private sectors," said Ranjana Prasad, member DCPCR.

According to DCPCR at Indra Kalyan Vihar, the nutritious powder made with whole grains was distributed among the residents and the recipe for this powder was also shared with the community so that they can learn how to make it with the easily available ingredients in their

kitchens.

"To stress further on the importance of a healthy diet and eating habits, a very interesting puppet show was shown to the community which has been enjoyed by children. The puppet show was a good way to engage people of all ages and showcase the consequences of not eating a nutrient-rich diet," said Prasad, adding that in future more slums will be covered.
