Day after car rammed into crowd, two held
New Delhi: The Delhi Police has registered a case after vandalism reported from Jagatpuri area after a car was rashly driven into a crowd near a mosque. Police have also arrested the errant driver who turned out to be criminal, involved in 27 cases.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Alok Kumar told Millennium Post that they have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation in the case is going on.
Police said the incident was reported on June 5 when the white Honda City car drove in a dangerous manner on the streets of Khureji, in the area of Jagat Puri police station.
"No one was injured in the incident," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Megna Yadav. A team of Shahdara district which was formed under two additional DCPs Ved Prakash Surya and Rohit Rajbir Singh arrested Shahrukh (the errant driver) along with his female associate from the area of Kashmiri Gate.
DCP Meghna further said that Shahrukh had stolen the car from the area of Madhu Vihar police station.
He used to sleep at night in this vehicle only and had parked it in the area of Rani Garden Geeta Colony.
"On the morning of 5th June 2019 on the day of Eid, he noticed heavy police deployment in the area, due to which he got scared and tried to escape from this place. He panicked in the process and sped into the streets of Khureji, where he drove in an endangering manner," added DCP Shahdara.
She further stated that the accused noticed that police personnel and public were following him in Khureji due to which he picked up more speed and escaped towards Anand Vihar area.
At night he again came to the area of Anand Vihar police station and from here he stole a scooty on which he and his female associate escaped.
DCP further revealed that during the interrogation he disclosed that he used to steal a vehicle by using a master key.
After rash driving incident, vandalism was reported in the area.
The alleged videos of vandalisation started to take rounds in social media in which it can be seen that few people are attacking DTC bus.
