Dacoits targeting DMRC construction sites arrested

NEW DELHI: The Delhi police busted a gang of dacoits and arrested seven accused of the dacoity at a DMRC construction site. On July 16, a PCR call was received in the wee hours at Pandav Nagar regarding the robbery of copper wires at Yamuna Khadar, opposite Akshardham Temple. The police team rushed to the spot immediately. Spot inspection revealed that the security guard Mithilesh Jha was on duty at the under-construction elevated Metro track when four persons came to the tracks under the cover of darkness, overpowered him and kept him hostage by tying his hands and feet. When Jha attempted to resist, they hit him on his head with a steel rod. "Thereafter, the dacoits started cutting the copper wire from the bundles lying on the track and collected the pieces in a truck waiting for them. Suspecting something amiss, an armed watchman Manoj Kumar came at the spot but he too was overpowered and held hostage in the same way. Both of them were gagged," said DCP East Pankaj Kumar Singh.

Once the truck was loaded, the robbers escaped taking with them the mobile phones and double barrel gun of the second watchman. However, other security guards overpowered the truck driver, who was arrested on the spot by the cops. Later, the police arrested other six accused and recovered all the stolen items.
