Cylinder blast kills mother and daughter in Karawal Nagar
New Delhi: A 62-year-old woman and her daughter died after two LPG cylinders exploded in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area on Tuesday morning.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said that the incident happened during cylinder filling. Police said that one person was injured in the explosion. A case will be registered in this regard.
According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) two fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the Fire Department received a call about the explosion.
Chief Fire Officer Atul Garg told Millennium Post that the area where the incident took place was in Karawal Nagar near Sadguru Ashram. Deceased identified as Hemlata (38) and Rambiri (62) died on the spot, while Rajesh (42) who sustained injuries were rushed to the GTB hospital.
Deceased persons lived with their family in Karawal Nagar whereas the victim works as a gas mechanic.
"The incident took place when a gas-cylinder mechanic was refilling gas from a bigger LPG cylinder to a smaller one and two persons died on the spot and one injured," said Garg.
It is being suspected that one of the women might had lit the match stick resulted in the explosion. However, police are investigating this fact. When the incident took place, the local people heard some noise and they rushed to the spot. They found that fire had spread in the house.
According to fire officials, the bodies were charred in the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Ved Prakash Surya said that they were alerted about the incident around 10:20 pm through a PCR call in which caller informed them about the cylinder blast.
"The investigation revealed that victim in the case Rajesh repairing gas when the incident took place. Both the deceased were mother and daughter," said DCP Surya.
At the time of the incident, no other person was in the house. Rambiri's husband works as a painter. Her daughter was also outside.
When asked any illegal cylinder filling was going at the time of the incident, DCP Surya said that no illegal activity was going on.
"They (deceased) had some problem in their gas connection so they had called Rajesh," the officer said.
Meanwhile, at the spot, the house in which the fire incident took place was gutted in the blaze. It took an hour for the fire officials to douse off the fire.
Recently in July, five persons including a 5-year-old girl were injured on Wednesday after a cylinder exploded in west Delhi's Moti Nagar area.
