Customs seize gold worth Rs 1 cr from IGI; 3 held
New Delhi: The Customs at the IGI airport on Wednesday, arrested three persons involved in smuggling of gold into the country, and gold worth over Rs 1 crore was recovered from the accused. According to Customs officials, on November 24, one Indian passenger arrived at T-3 of IGI airport from Riyadh. He was intercepted by the Customs after he had crossed the green channel. On personal search of the passenger, three gold-coated discs which were concealed inside three speakers were recovered. "The seized gold collectively weighs 798 grams and is estimated to be worth more than Rs 27 lakh. An associate of the passenger arrested was also arrested outside the IGIA where he came to receive the speakers containing gold," said Amandeep Singh, Additional Commissioner of Customs.
