Criminal injured in gun battle
New Delhi: A 22-year-old man believed to be criminal was injured in a gun battle with police in South East Delhi on Sunday. The city police also arrested two of his other associates.
Police said that in the afternoon, on a secret information a trap was laid by the local police staff of Nizamuddin police station at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, on the carriageway running from Moolchand to Lodhi Road. At Around 3.50 pm, a motorcycle was sighted having three suspects riding on it. "The picket staff on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg tried to stop them by closing barricades. upon seeing police, one of them got down and started running," police further said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said that the other two also tried to escape on their motorcycle, but, both of them were chased by a police team and caught at Lodhi road flyover. They were identified as Salmaan and Shuaib. "The third suspect who started escaping on foot was chased by our police staff to apprehend him. However, he fired three rounds from a pistol he was carrying. Police party also fired two rounds in which one round hit the right leg of the criminal. He was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment," police said. The injured was identified as Faizan. He is involved in 13 criminal cases.
