Crime graph in Delhi Metro goes down in 2018
New Delhi: Controlling the movement of gangs and making sure that there could be no negligence by on-duty police personnel were the part of policing through which Delhi Police (Metro) decreased the crime in their jurisdiction. The police will soon be reaching to common people who had caught criminals red-handed to know their views regarding safety while they travel inside the lifeline of the city.
The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that in the year 2018 (till June 11), around 2,335 cases through e-FIR have been registered whereas through normal FIR around 178 cases were reported to city police. "In 2017, till the same date, the cases through e-FIR was more than 6,000 whereas more than 500 cases were reported through normal FIR," said the police data. Most of the cases were of pickpocketing, mobile and purse thieves.
The data further added that in the year 2018 more than 200 persons were nabbed whereas last year 175 persons were caught for committing the crime till 11 June. Metro Police come under the newly formed "Transport range" which is been headed by Joint Commissioner of Police, Atul Katiyar. The senior officer has directed all other officials regarding zero-tolerance toward crime.
Talking to Millennium Post, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Deepak Gauri stated that there is a decrease in the movement of various gangs operating in the metro jurisdiction and the reason is visibility of police personnel. "I am also making sure that there is no negligence of duty from the side of police personnel," said the DCP. The police further claimed that the pickpocketers target interchanging stations during peak hours.
Deepak Gauri will soon meet around 50 to 60 common people who had caught criminals red-handed. "We want to know whether they feel safe in the metro jurisdiction. The problems like dark stretches and suggestion to make metro safer will also be discussed," said a senior police officer. In recent time city police has also got complaints regarding nuisance created by drunken people in metro jurisdiction after which action was taken. "We also write DMRC regarding the issue of the liquor shop in their complex area," said the police officer.
Named as "DCP reserved", Delhi Police Metro unit has formed a team of five policemen. They catch criminals and also identify the loopholes in the jurisdiction so that they can be solved. The team visit several areas like parking and other places situated nearby metro premises to check whether there are any dark spots. A regular report is given to DCP.
