Crime Branch to oversee probe

New Delhi: A day after a massive fire claimed 17 lives in a factory in Rohini district's Bawana area, Delhi Police on Sunday transferred the case to its Crime Branch for a detailed probe.
DCP (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta stated that the Commissioner transferred the case to Crime Branch as it requires extensive investigation and proper detailed follow-up.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of 12 of the victims concluded on Sunday and the bodies were handed over to their relatives.
"An information desk has been made available at Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and staff has been deputed to help relatives identify the victims.
"We have also identified 14 bodies, while one female and two male dead bodies are still unidentified," said Gupta.
The senior police official added that the factory's supervisor Ajit Ranjan also died in the incident.
Police said that a team from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory visited the factory again on Sunday and conducted an extensive search of the premises for about four hours, along with police.
Samples were picked up by the team from the site for detailed examination and to ascertain whether or not firecrackers made at the factory were meant for use in stage shows.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to ascertained, sources said that the factory had no fire safety measures installed.
Meanwhile, Delhi Fire Service have issued an advisory to ensures proper escape routes before going to work in any factory. Chief Fire Officer Atul Garg claimed that there was only one escape route at the factory. "Before going to any factory, escape routes must be checked," said Garg.
