Cousins arrested for arms peddling, 21 pistols seized

NEW DELHI: A team of Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested two notorious arms peddlers, identified as Vineet Kumar (33) and Ram Kumar (31), who were reportedly involved in arms trafficking and supplying firearms to criminals in Delhi-NCR.
Cops said on Wednesday that 21 sophisticated pistols an as many spare magazines were recovered from the duo's possession.
They added that the arrested accused are cousins and residents of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh.
A senior police official said that police teams had been deployed in Aligarh and other parts of Uttar Pradesh as well as Madhya Pradesh to find information about the duo.
After two months of efforts, a tip-off was received that on Tuesday, both the accused would be coming to Salimgarh flyover near Rajghat to deliver a large consignment of illegal firearms to some criminals based in Delhi.
A police, in disguise, took their position near the rendezvous site and about 5 pm, both the accused were spotted under the Salimgarh flyover, carrying rucksack bags.
"As soon as they were identified, the two were apprehended. During checking, 10 sophisticated pistols with 10 spare magazines were found in the rucksack bag of accused Vineet, whereas 11 sophisticated pistols with 11 spare magazines were found in the rucksack bag of accused Ram Kumar," said Deputy Commissionr of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah.
During interrogation, Vineet revealed that after completing his diploma from an ITI in Aligarh, he worked in the telecom sector as a field technician for a while.
In 2008, he and his cousin Ram Kumar got embroiled in an attempt-to-murder case in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, over a property dispute. There, they came in contact with some criminals and got contacts and information of arms manufacturers based in MP and UP, and soon started procuring and supplying arms to criminals.
