Cousin arrested for rape of minor girl in Gr Noida

Greater Noida: A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his minor cousin after making her consume a drink laced with a sedative. Police said that the incident occurred in Jewar area of Greater Noida on August 24, adding that the arrest was made on Monday.

Police said the accused has been identified as Rahul Jatav, a native of Khurja area in Bulandshahr district.

The 16-year-old victim was raped while she was on her way home from her stitching classes. Cops said that she had accompanied the accused as she knew him. However, the culprit made her consume liquor and raped her after she fell unconscious. They also ruled out the possibility of the girl being gang-raped.

"We received a complaint from the victim's family alleging that their daughter had been kidnapped by two men on a motorcycle and was forced to consume liquor, following which they gang-raped her. An FIR in this regard was registered on August 29 and a probe was launched," said Vineet Jaiswal, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Jaiswal further told media that during interrogation, Jatav not only confessed to the crime but also admitted that he was the only one who raped the girl.

"Based on the family's allegation, an FIR under IPC sections of gang-rape was lodged. However, upon questioning the accused, he revealed that he alone picked up the victim on a motorcycle around 5 pm, while she was on her way home from a stitching class and raped her at an isolated place after making her consume beer. Later he dropped the girl to her home in an unconscious condition late in the night," added Jaiswal.

Police have recovered two empty cans of beer that were used to intoxicate the girl and the bike used in the incident has also been seized by the police.

Police further said that the accused has been sent to jail after being produced before the magistrate.
