NEW DELHI: As 31-year-old Ankit made his towards his coaching centre located in north west Delhi's Mahendra Park area on Monday morning, little did he knew that two armed men had been waiting for him nearby.

When they saw him enter the centre, the culprits, who were wearing masks, crept up behind Ankit and shot him in the head.

Ankit collapsed to the ground instantly and before anyone could raise an alarm, the accused fled the spot. Later in the day, cops confirmed there were two assailants.

Ankit was rushed to the hospital, but was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, Ankits sister hinted that the murder was the outcome of the romantic relationship her brother was in with a girl from a different community.

"My brother had been in a relationship with a girl from a different religion for the past 10 years. Our family was ready for the marriage. Though the girl's parents almost agreed to their marriage, her brothers were opposed to it. I suspect her brother's have a hand in the murder," Archana, Ankit's sister said.

According to police, preliminary investigation suggested that the girl's family members are involved in the incident and several of them were called in for questioning.

Meanwhile, gauging the sensitivity of the case, police said they will ensure all the details before taking any legal action.

"We have been told that the deceased, a private teacher, was known to the girl for 10 years. We are questioning the girl's family but, at the same time, we are not ruling out any personal enmity angle. Our investigation is open," said DCP (North West) Aslam Khan.

Ten police teams have been formed to arrest the accused and investigate the matter. Cops are also scanning CCTV cameras installed at the stretch of the crime scene to find clues about the attackers.

They are also taking statements from students of the coaching class to get some clues. The call records of the girl's family members are also being analysed.
