Couple shot dead by nephew over old enmity

Greater Noida: A couple was allegedly shot dead by their nephew at a village in Dadri area of Greater Noida on Tuesday afternoon. Police suspect that the killing was a fallout of an old enmity between two groups of a family. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three persons at Dadri police station.

According to the police, the deceased couple has been identified as 60-year-old Vedram and his 55-year-old wife Nattho Singh, natives of Loni area of Ghaziabad. The incident took place when the victims were on the way home after attending a village panchayat at village Chitthera in Dadri which was conducted to discuss their old family feud, Deputy Superintendent of Police Nishank Sharma said.

The victims were travelling back to their home in a car. As soon they sat in the car, their nephew and his accomplices, travelling on a motorcycle opened fire on them following which the victims sustained bullet injuries in chest and head. The accused fled from the spot before the locals could reach them.

"As the information was conveyed, a police team was rushed to the spot and took the victims to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them as brought dead. The bodies have been sent for the post mortem while a case has been registered under IPC section 302 (murder) and relevant sections of the Arms Act based on a complaint by the deceased's family members," said Ram Sen Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station.

The police said that the family has named the deceased's nephew Vikram as the prime suspect behind the murder. Ankit and Rohit, also the family members, accompanied him in the crime. Meanwhile, all the three accused are absconding after the incident and cops have launched a manhunt to nab them. "During the probe, it came to light that in 2015, deceased Vedram's sons murdered their cousin over a property dispute. On Tuesday, a village panchayat was conducted to discuss the matter and when it ended up without giving a satisfactory verdict, the furious nephew opened fire on the couple in order to take revenge for the death of his brother," added Singh.
