Coronavirus: 59 health workers test positive, taking total cases to 209 so far

New Delhi: About 59 health workers were tested positive till Monday taking the toll to 209 healthcare workers from 23 hospitals in Delhi have tested positive for Coronavirus so far. The recent data reveals that 95 per cent of these workers were not working in COVID wards of the hospital. While doctors in COVID wards are safe with PPE kits, but those in different wards are exposed to the virus.

Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital

In Delhi's Jahangirpuri area, government hospital Babu Jagjiven Ram Hospital is shut with a few security guards wearing PPE kits moving around. The hospital witnessed 59 COVID positive cases of healthcare workers, after which the authorities sealed the building. The area also falls under the red zone.

On Monday afternoon the whole hospital was being sanitized, while all the doctors were quarantined. "The patients were shifted to different localities accordingly," said a guard at the gate. Meanwhile, there are no instructions as to when will the hospital will resume its functions.

The shutdown of the hospital has created an issue for the people nearby. Meenakshi was in a lot of pain and wanted to get checked, but was refused by the guard. "Where will we go?" she asked the guard, who told her to visit the nearest hospital.

Hindu Rao Hospital

Hindu Rao Hospital, which was sealed for two days after a nurse of the hospital was tested positive, resumed its services from Monday.

All the entry and exit points to the hospital were sealed on Saturday night after the test reports of the 30-year-old nurse came positive. Fifty-two healthcare workers at Hindu Rao Hospital — who came in contact with a nurse — have been sent for testing and are currently in isolation.

Max Hospital

In private hospital Max, 33 people were tested positive in the Patpargunj branch, while three were found positive at the Saket branch. In a statement on Monday, Max said that it has so far tested 581 healthcare workers for Covid 19.

"Out of these, 33 healthcare workers have tested positive. 32 are presently admitted in Max Hospital, Saket and one patient has been discharged. All the patients admitted in the hospital are stable and in wards not requiring Oxygen or ICU support," said a statement from the hospital.

Other hospitals

Other hospitals that have positive cases of healthcare workers, according to the data are – Delhi Cancer Institute with 26 healthcare workers, Maharaja Agrasen with six cases, Sir Ganga Ram with three cases, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) with eight cases, while Safdarjung Hospital also has eight cases. At Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has four cases, Sardar Patel has one case, while Lok Nayak Hospital has three cases.

At Delhi's Mohalla Clinic two doctors were found

positive. Meanwhile, at Moolchand Hospital one case of healthcare workers has been found, while at Apollo Hospital the cases are two. Lady Hardinge also has a high number with 14 cases.

Meanwhile, two cases have been found at Jag Pravesh Hspital, one at GTB Hospital, Ambedkar Hospital also witnessed 26 cases among healthcare workers, while one at Rajan Babu TB Hospital and one at Batra Hospital.
