Cops nab criminal involved in encounter from Jamia Nagar

Delhi Police have arrested a wanted criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000, from South East Delhi's Jamia Nagar area.

Police said on Saturday that Asif, alias Kala, has 10 cases of robbery against him, along with several other cases of snatching. He was also involved in a shootout with Delhi Police earlier.

Delhi Police sub-inspector Yogesh had received a secret input that a notorious robber, involved in many criminal cases and carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000, would come to meet his friend at Batla House, Jamia Nagar near Escort Hospital around 09.30 pm on Friday.

Information was further developed and a trap was laid at the location. Around 1 am, cops intercepted a car. The car's driver, who turned out to be Asif, opened the window and took out his pistol, pointed it at SI Yogesh and tried to flee the spot.

The SI then came out from his car, snatched the pistol off Asif and overpowered him with the help of assistant SI Sukhbir. Police also recovered pistol from him which had four live cartridges.

Kala had also fired on police teams in the past and always carried illegal weapons.

In 2002, Asif and some of his associates had been arrested by police personnel of Pratap Nagar and six cases of robbery, dacoity and five cases of snatching also were worked out.

"He came out from jail and joined the notorious gang of Satya Prakash and started committing snatching and robberies. He, along with Satya Prakash alias Satte, committed a sensational robbery in the area of PS Gulabi Bagh in 2002. In this incident, Satya Prakash was arrested by the Special Cell, but Asif managed to escape," said DCP South East Romil Baniya.He was also involved in sensational encounters with Delhi Police at Pul Prahladpur and Nehru Place.
