Cook arrested for theft in SE Delhi

New Delhi: A 27-year-old man was arrested on Friday for his involvement in a theft case from the house where he was working as the cook since 2011 in South East Delhi.

Police claimed that the accused left his job two months ago to open a dhaba, which did not yield great success, and hence the plan was hatched.

The accused has been identified as Roop Narain, a native of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh.

He had reportedly stolen jewelry worth Rs. 15 lakhs, which were later recovered from his native place.

The incident had occurred on July 22, but the owner found her jewelry to be missing only on the July 25 after her return from Hyderabad.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal informed that the local inquiry was conducted. It disclosed that Narain used to live at Khijrabad but was not found at the address on Police raid.

"Further inquiry revealed that he has opened his own dhaba somewhere in the area of Aali Vihar from where he was nabbed", said the DCP

During interrogation, accused Roop Narain disclosed that on the day of the incident at about 11 pm he went to the house where he was working to request for money as his dhaba was not running well. Upon knocking on the door, no one responded. He pushed the door and found no one inside the bedroom.

The accused stole gold and diamond jewelry from the locker in the bedroom and managed to escape with nobody around.
