Construction worker falls to his death in outer Delhi

New Delhi: A 25-year-old man died after he fell from an under-construction building where he was working in outer Delhi's Kirari area on Thursday morning.

Police on Friday claimed that when he accidentally fell from the second floor of the building, a pile of bricks kept upstairs also fell on him, causing him fatal injuries.

A case has been registered and further investigation underway, police said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajendra Sagar on Friday confirmed that it was not a roof collapse, but falling bricks which took his life after the fall.

Cops added that the deceased has been identified as Chotu Kumar, who was working at the under-construction house of one Praveen. "Kumar was working on the second floor of the building when the accident took place. After this, a pile of bricks roof fell on the ground floor," said a senior officer.

Police said that locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead on arrival. After the post-mortem, cops handed over Kumar's body to his family.

"We have registered a case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code. However, no arrest has been made so far," said a senior police officer.

The accident follows the fatal collapse of a four-storey building on Wednesday morning in Ashok Vihar, where seven people died and five others were injured. The victims included a man, two women and four children.
