Greater Noida: Noida Police have arrested a constable posted at the Sales Tax department of Gautam Budh Nagar district for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl neighbour at his flat, police sources said on Thursday.
A police officer investigating the case said the incident occurred in Surajpur village on Wednesday when victim was alone at her home as her mother left for work.
The accused constable of Uttar Pradesh police, identified as Subhash Singh (45), saw the victim alone, playing outside her home and took her forcibly in his one room flat at around 3 pm on Wednesday, said police sources.
"Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Kaithi village, escaped from the spot after the victim screamed for help following which her neighbours ran for her help.
"They took the minor to nearby clinic," said Suniti Singh, Superintendent of police (Rural), Gautam Buddh Nagar.
However, the incident was reported to police on Thursday morning at around 8.30 am after the angry mob of villagers caught the alleged accused police constable near his flat, thrashed him and handed over to police.
"Subhash was posted in the Sales tax department in Gautam Budh Nagar. He returned to his flat on Thursday early morning where he attacked two women neighbours when they tried to catch him.
"Later, some villagers caught and thrashed him for at least two hours. He was later handed over to police officers of Surajpur police station," added Singh.
Police have lodged an FIR against Singh under Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"The victim has been sent to the district hospital at Noida's Sector 30 for medical test. We are waiting for the report," Singh continued.
The victim's mother works as labourer in a factory and hails from Bihar. Her father had died few years back.
