Conman who lured 21 girls held

New Delhi: A 32-years-old conman who posed himself as media person was arrested from Haridwar in Uttrakhand on December 22. The accused presented himself as the owner of a new news channel by the name "ADN Star News". He also lured 21 girls from the different matrimonial websites.

The accused was identified as Abhishek Vashisht alias Abhinav Sharma alias Abhi Rudransh. Delhi Police has announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on information leading to his arrest.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwah stated that the accused used to cheat gullible persons by making false IDs on various matrimonial sites.

"He presented himself as the owner of a company by the name Akshaya Deep Media House and posed as an affluent businessman to woo victims from well to do families," said DCP Kushwaha.

Subsequently, it also came to the knowledge that this person had cheated one family from Delhi. "On December 22, Special Cell of Southern Range apprehended the accused from near Prem Ashram Chowk, Haridwar, Uttrakhand," police said. The arrest was made by the team of ACP (Special Cell) Attar Singh.

The accused claims to have worked as a reporter in various reputed news channels. He got married to his first wife in the year 2002 but he has not been staying with his family for the last six years and visits them occasionally. Though, he claims himself to be unmarried or divorcee to his victims.

Delhi Police in their press statement claimed that in 2012, he posed as an Astrologer (Acharya Atul Ji Maharaj) and appeared on a media channel on programs.

Subsequently, the channel got information about his cheating activities and discontinued his programs. The said channel also issued an advisory (available on Youtube) stating that said Acharya Atul Ji Maharaj is a fraud person and the channel has received a number of complaints against him.

In the year 2016, he was arrested in a cheating case at Police Station Sector 34, Chandigarh, when he tried to cheat a businessman in a bogus land deal. In this case, he impersonated as an employee of an Indian Media Group, with the address at Race Course Road, Dehradun. Later on, he adopted a new way of cheating people by creating profiles on different matrimonial sites. At the beginning of 2018, he came in touch with a Delhi based girl from a respectable family. He told them that his parents were dead and he had no surviving relatives. Believing his misrepresentation, the victim got married to him in March 2018. He stayed with the victim for two weeks and then eloped with all the jewellery and cash.
