Con man who stole car posing as Ola official held
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday said they arrested a con man who posed as an Ola official and duped a car owner in Dwarka into giving away his car to be used to ferry passengers by the cab-aggregator company.
Police said the accused man, identified as Rajkumar, had first called the victim with the proposal of hiring his cab and attaching it with Ola.
Intrigued, the victim agreed, and Rajkumar came to his house at Rama Park in Dwarka. The accused asked the victim to accompany him to the Ola office, to which the latter agreed.
While they were leaving his home, the victim realised he had forgotten his wallet. So he handed over the documents and keys to his car to the accused and asked him to wait while he returned with his wallet.
However, when the man came back, he found that the accused had escaped with his car.
Realising that he had been duped, the victim called the police. He also alleged that Rajkumar stole his cellphone which was in the car.
On Sunday, the Anti Auto Theft Squad of Dwarka District Police then received an information that the accused would be passing through Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar Road.
Soon, a trap was laid and he was arrested by a police team.
"On interrogation, the accused person confessed to his involvement in the crime. He revealed that he works as a driver and wanted to have his own cab but did not have money to buy a taxi. Hence, he planned and executed the heist," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse.
