City gears up for 'Chhath Puja'

NEW DELHI: 'Chhath Puja' will be celebrated in the NCT of Delhi on Saturday evening till Sunday morning. On Saturday evening thousands of devotees will be congregating at various Ghats of river Yamuna and other water bodies like lakes, canals, ponds etc. The prayers are offered at the time of sunset. While some devotees may leave after the sunset prayers, several will stay for the night at the Ghats only, in tents. Next day morning that is on Sunday again people will gather at the Ghats at the time of sunrise and offer prayers after which they will disperse.

The arrangements for the ghats made in various parts of Delhi like PurviGhat in Wazirabad, ITO bridge Yamuna River Eastern side, Rainy Well, Shakarpur and IP Estate, Kondli Canal, New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi.

In central Delhi Yamuna Ghat, KudesiyaGhat/ GeetaGhat near ISBT, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, Hathi Ghat. In South-East Delhi, KalindiKunj Bank of River Yamuna, Agra canal, Road, Shiv Ghat, Near Sri Ram Chowk, NTPC Ground Khadda Colony and Sarai Kale Khan.

In North West and Outer Delhi, Bapu Park, Near PS Mangolpuri, Bawana canal, Haiderpur Canal, Bawana Road Near Telephone Exchange., Hindu Vihar near Railway Line 40 ft Road Prem Nagar., Shiv Mandir, Inder Enclave, Sultanpuri.

In Western Delhi, Jai Vihar, Nangloi, GandaNala, Pulia, PaschimVihar, Mahavir Enclave Telephone Exchange.

The normal flow of traffic is likely to be affected in the afternoon/evening of Saturday and in the Sunday morning on roads adjoining the major Ghats of Yamuna and water bodies like Bhalaswalake and Haiderpur Canal. Appropriate diversions will be made by the traffic police based on the ground requirement.

"Commuters are advised to avoid the roads adjoining the Ghats/Chhath Puja sites for example, a stretch of Outer Ring Road from MukarbaChowk to Chandgi Ram Akhara, Wazirabad Bridge, Roads near ISBT Kashmere Gate, Pushta Road (Khajoori/Shastri Park), Kalindi Kunj Bridge," said a senior Police officer.
