CISF detects high volume of foreign currency at IGIA

New Delhi: CISF on Sunday detected high volume of foreign currency worth approximately Rs 16 lakh at IGI Airport. The Afghan national, who was carrying the currency, was handed over to customs for further investigation.

According to CISF, on profiling basis, their surveillance and intelligence staff zeroed-in a foreign national in check-in area of IGI Airport. The passenger was later identified as Sarwar Baryily (Afghan National) who was going to Kabul.He was diverted to random checking point in the departure area for thorough checking. On checking of his baggage through X-BIS machine, two pouches carrying currency wrapped in black polythene were noticed. Thereafter, the foreign national proceeded for immigration and he was kept under close watch.

"After clearing the immigration, he was intercepted and thoroughly checked by CISF surveillance and intelligence staff at International Security Hold area. On checking of his baggage, high volume of foreign currency in denomination of USD 15,000, dirham 26,500 and Afghani currency 3,880 worth approximately Rs 16 Lakh were recovered from his bag," CISF said in their press statement.

Later senior officers from CISF and Customs were informed. The foreign national along with foreign currency was handed over to customs officials for further legal action.
