CISF detects high volume of foreign currency at IGI
New Delhi: CISF on Thursday said that they have detected the high volume of foreign currency worth approximately Rs 20 lakh concealed in deodorant containers at IGI Airport.
According to CISF, on August 29, CISF surveillance & intelligence staff of IGI Airport on profiling basis, observed the suspicious activities of a passenger in the departure area of terminal-3, IGI Airport. He was intercepted and enquired.
On enquiry, he revealed his identity as Mohd Faizan (Indian), who was supposed to travel to Dubai by flight.
"He was brought to the random checking point for thorough checking of his luggage. On x-ray screening of his bag, CISF personnel noticed suspicious images inside his bag," CISF said in their press statement.
CISF further added that the bag was taken out for physical checking. On physical checking, the high volume of foreign currency (Saudi Riyal-80,000, Nepalese currency-2,80,000 and Bangladeshi currency-2,00,000 worth nearly Rs 20 lakh concealed in two deodorant perfume containers kept inside his bag were found.
"On enquiry, he could not produce any valid document. The matter was informed to Senior Officers of CISF and Income Tax Officials of IGI Airport. Later, the said passenger along with the recovered high volume of foreign currency worth INR 20 lakh was handed over to Income Tax Officials for further legal action in the matter," said CISF official.
